"Magnification" - YES (2001)

E' un album che appare insolito nella discografia degli Yes, non fosse altro che per l' Orchestra condotta e scritta da Larry Groupè. Non appare Rick Wakeman, mentre sono presenti gli altri quattro Yes, compreso Chris Squire, messo in disparte, non gradito per beghe contrattuali con Anderson e gli altri, precedentemente...
L'orchestra è "suggestione" dello stesso Wakeman nel suo album da solista "The Wizard and the Forest of all Dreams", uscito cinque anni prima dal presente "Magnification"; "The Wizard..." è soprattutto corale, più che accompagnamento orchestrale: in "Magnification" invece l'orchestra è protagonista nel bene e nel male dei pezzi. Che hanno sempre il solismo, da veri "maghi" degli strumenti come sono, quali interpreti, gli stessi Yes, ma che in "Magnification" si esibiscono in simbiosi con la predetta Orchestra. Howe interpreta la chitarra elettrica ed acustica come strumenti sinergici, quale la batteria di White ed il basso di Squire, di violini, clarinetti, oboi, tube e sassofoni. La voce di Anderson (vera caratteristica degli Yes) canta i testi abbondanti scritti da lui stesso, con momenti "d'età che avanza", che hanno bisogno di un' interpretazione, che io stesso non conosco appieno, degli altri testi-Yes. Anderson è ad ogni modo sempre il "singer" che conosciamo! Spesso ha parlato della mitologia nordica, o degli astri...Howe usa la chitarra, a volte elettrica a volte acustica/classica, come maestro. White, prezioso e tipico con una batteria di cui fa quello che vuole, è l'elemento che suona le "drums" degli Yes da "Yessongs" (1972), al posto dell'amico-batterista Bruford. Squire, il bassista, al contrario degli altri artisti del gruppo, spinge spesso il suo strumento a note di gran "volume", impetuoso, significativo, martellante!
Con una conclusione affrettata, trovo "Magnification" un disco, per gli appassionati degli Yes e non, sublime e da non perdere. A proposito: Jon Anderson suona a Costabissara il 29.11.2007 (Vicenza). Prezzo del biglietto: 57 Euro le prime file. Inizio del concerto ore 21:30!!



Magnification. What you'ld like to hear on Friday evening or Saturday aftyernoon!! There isn't Rick Wakeman on keyboards, anymore: at his place appears the Orchestra, conducted by Larry Groupè. The album was recorded at the Sound Design Studios, Santa Barbara, CA. Jon Anderson, lead vocals Midi guitar and acoustic guitar; Steve Howe, acoustic and electric guitars steel mandolin & vocals; Chris Squire, bass and vocals; Alan White, drums percussion vocals & piano.

The album enjoy the synergie music-words about what they (the Yes) have got in their head. I believe this is a musical process always being in the Yes discs, starting from "Time and a world" (the 2.nd one) and "The Yes album)" (1971), goin' on with "Tales from topographic Oceans". We all Yes fans can say that theirs is a long life, contraddistinct by, as few artists, certain contents in the Songs develop: Music straightly singing with Yes words, all in all.
The road begun with "The Yes Album", on this way, and it had a beautiful brick with "Tales...". First, on "Fragile" (1972) and "Close to the Edge" (1972). The road has gone on since this "Magnification" (2001). At the same bit I commented the rock evolution (it's my personal opinion!) in past "Still 2 little words on Art, about me, 5 - " I said that the closing over with the other periods of Music, as Classic Music!!, is almost possible.
On this opera, the Yes Group confirms my opinion; on the rest, it will happen at the same contrast with their old keyboardsman, Rick Wakeman, expecially on his album "The Wizard and the Forest of all Dreams" (2004). With Orchestra, the same Album!
